MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT:  "Widely Attended Gatherings" Workshop
          offered in New York City


     The U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE) will conduct a
workshop on "Widely Attended Gatherings" in New York City on 
Tuesday, December 16, 1997.  This workshop will be held in Training
Room 305-A of the Jacob Javits Federal Building, 26 Federal Plaza,
at 9:00 a.m.  The workshop is designed to closely examine the
requirements of this specific exception to rules governing gifts
from outside sources (Subpart B of the Standards of Conduct) and is
intended for ethics officials with little or no experience advising
employees on gifts.

     This workshop is offered FREE to each agency.  However,
advance registration is required.  Each person planning to attend
MUST register by faxing a completed registration form to OGE by
Thursday, December 11, 1997.  Registration will be handled on a
first-come basis.  Workshop size is limited to 40 participants.  NO
TELEPHONE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  Registration forms are
attached.   Please fax completed registration forms to:

     OGE will confirm each student's registration by return fax
prior to the workshop date.  Due to the large volume of
registrations, we ask that registrants NOT follow up on
confirmations.

ethics officials as soon as possible.
