January 15, 1997 DT-97-005 MEMORANDUM TO: Designated Agency Ethics Officials and Inspectors General FROM: Barbara A. Mullen-Roth Associate Director for Education SUBJECT: 1997 Annual Government Ethics Conference The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) is in the process of planning the 1997 Annual Government Ethics Conference which will be held in Williamsburg, Virginia, September 15 through 18, 1997. OGE is using a different approach in planning this year's conference than in previous years and we need your input in a couple of areas to ensure that we meet your needs and develop the best possible conference program. First, we need your best estimate on the number of attendees your agency expects to send. In estimating the number, assume OGE will not restrict the slots allocated to your agency. This information is critical in determining the conference fee which we would like to keep as low as possible. Second, we would like to give you the opportunity to develop and propose concurrent sessions for the conference program. Unlike previous years where we have solicited your ideas for topics for concurrent sessions, this year we would like you to consider designing the session, including selecting a topic or topics, arranging for the speakers/panelists and deciding on the format best suited to the session. Our hope is that this approach will provide more opportunities throughout the ethics community to more actively participate in the conference and generate some fresh ideas. Please provide your input no later than Friday, February 21, 1997, by faxing the attached form to Sheila Powers, Conference Coordinator, at 202-208-8039. Please note this is NOT a registration form. Thank you in advance for your input and assistance. We are looking forward to another successful conference. Attachment
