Involving Leadership in the Collection of Financial Disclosure Reports Increases Number of Timely Filed Reports
One agency reports that the number of timely filed financial disclosure reports increased dramatically when employees were instructed to file reports with the Director of the agency instead of with the ethics office. The Director's assistant tracked receipt of reports (and reminded employees of the annual training requirement) and then forwarded the reports to the ethics office for review. The agency indicates that employees who did not file their reports will receive a follow-up letter signed by the Director.
For large agencies where filing with the Director is not practical, an alternate approach may be to instruct employees to file reports with their supervisors.
